Are you in the middle of doing up your bathroom? Are you faced with choosing various bathroom fittings? Wondering which bath, shower or basin mixer tap to buy, and how and at what height to install it? Read our article! We believe it will help you choose the right models and ensure they harmonise not only with the aesthetics and finish of your oasis of relaxation, but also with your preferences. Ready for a dose of useful know-how? Then let’s begin!

Bath mixer tap height – which will be best?

A bath filled with bubbles is usually associated with relaxation, unwinding and at-home spa treatments. It helps you gather your thoughts and switch off. It also offers a way to escape the problems of everyday life. To get the most benefit from it and enjoy every moment, it’s worth choosing the right sanitary fittings and installing them at the proper height.

When opting for an alternative to a shower, you should consider every last component. One of them is the bath mixer tap. Depending on how it’s fixed, there are two basic placement options. The first—chosen quite rarely—is mounting the bath tap on the bath itself. The second—much more common—involves installing it about 10-18 cm above the edge of the bath and at least 60 cm above the floor. This layout ensures maximum comfort and ease of use.

Installing a wall-mounted bath mixer tap

Contrary to appearances, fixing a bath mixer tap is not very complicated. However, it does require a bit of precision and manual skill. To start with, screw the special eccentric connectors to the appropriate ends of the plumbing installation at the same height and at right angles. Next, secure the threaded joints against leaks with PTFE tape or hemp fibre, and place the escutcheons over the eccentrics. The final step is to fit a filter gasket inside the nuts used to attach your chosen fitting. Installing the bath mixer itself involves tightening it with a spanner and protecting the aforementioned nuts with a piece of cloth or special plastic covers.

The right height for a shower mixer tap

As in the previous case, the height of a concealed shower mixer plays a key role in the comfort of everyday hygiene. It is particularly important to match the sanitary fitting to the specific user—a child, an adult or a person with a disability. To make showering as convenient as possible, the height of the shower mixer should be selected individually.

Installing a concealed shower mixer

Taking all criteria into account, pay attention to the correct method of installing the concealed element. Given the differing heights of all users of the shower enclosure, a good rule is to position the centre of the mixer about 110-120 cm above the floor. First, however, you should run hot- and cold-water pipes to the mixer unit. To fit a concealed shower mixer, you need to make an opening in the wall to hide part of the chosen sanitary fitting and to provide access to the supply pipes.

Installation height for a concealed basin mixer

In terms of tailoring all parameters to a specific user, installing a concealed basin mixer seems the simplest. According to expert opinions available on many specialist portals, there is a universal height for positioning this type of fitting. Taking comfort and ergonomics into account, it is assumed that the basin mixer should be mounted about 25-35 cm above the upper edge of the basin and at the same time 100-120 cm above the floor. According to calculations, the optimal height for the basin itself is 80 cm.

As you’ve probably noticed, choosing the right height for individual bathroom taps—bath, shower and basin—has enormous aesthetic and functional importance. Properly installed sanitary fittings let you enjoy comfort and convenience for many years.
