Simple, minimalist solutions are gaining in popularity year after year. This is undoubtedly because such conveniences deliver both comfort and aesthetics—particularly in the case of the linear drain. This piece of plumbing hardware is appearing in our bathrooms ever more often. Modern shower channels are subtle and barely noticeable, yet they handle water drainage exceptionally well. What lies behind the appeal of the linear drain? Which aspects are worth considering when buying and installing one?

Trayless showers – an interiors hit

Just a few years ago, showers without trays had few supporters. Today, they are an innovative yet convenient solution that is appearing in more and more Polish bathrooms. An outstanding advantage of walk-in models is their minimalist look, as well as the ease of getting in and out. The latter is crucial when the users are children or older people with limited mobility. Another benefit of these models is how easy they are to keep clean. Anyone who has ever given a bathroom a thorough clean knows that tiles are much easier to clean than a shower tray.

A trayless shower is an ideal solution for a small bathroom. However, if you opt for this option, it needs to be accounted for at the design stage so that an appropriate fall can be created to carry water to the drainage system. To make that happen, ensure the bathroom installation is built accordingly and choose a high-quality linear drain.

Why is it worth investing in a linear drain?

A shower channel is a piece of plumbing fitted at floor level. The main task of the drain is to carry water away to the drainage system. If we choose this solution, there is no need to install a shower tray in our bathroom. As a result, the bathroom takes on a contemporary character. Linear drains are particularly suitable for small interiors because they do not take up much space. It is also worth adding that they are easy to keep clean.

Linear drain: which one to choose?

In shops that distribute bathroom and plumbing fittings you can find many solutions. The diversity of products available on the market means we can choose from various types of grates, channel lengths and installation methods. On the shelves you will find, among others, straight and corner channels, as well as models with perforations along the long side. Choosing a specific model, however, is not so simple. Why? Because in this case you must pay close attention to the type of floor before purchasing. Only then will the tiles together with the channel and grate form a uniform surface.

Aesthetic qualities are not the only issue worth spending more time on, though. With bathroom fittings, keeping them clean is also important. For that reason, the best solution is stainless-steel bodies and models designed to guarantee easy cleaning for household members.

Sealing elements in linear drains

With bathroom fittings, the watertightness of the structure is of key importance. Every linear drain is in constant contact with water and moisture, so it is not worth investing in materials of questionable quality. Before purchasing, it is worth taking a close look at the individual components and how they are joined. When choosing a specific set, it is advisable to check that the kit is complete. Special attention should be paid to the trap, which is responsible for draining water and preventing unpleasant odours. Only high-quality products can guarantee safety in use.

Proper flow rate – what does it mean?

When investing in a linear drain, we must remember that efficient water removal is extremely important. If we want to enjoy a comfortable shower, we should choose a drain that can remove at least 30 litres of water per minute.

When is it worth choosing a wall-mounted linear drain?

As far as linear drains are concerned, the wall-mounted model seems the most attractive solution. Using this piece of plumbing allows you to achieve a flush, level floor surface, which is impossible with a standard linear drain installed in floor tiles. Wall-mounted linear drain works best in small bathrooms and where you have invested in underfloor heating.

Contemporary bathrooms are minimalist spaces in which all the necessary elements are stylishly concealed. Both concealed taps and boxing in the washing machine are among the few details we opt for during a major renovation or when fitting out a bathroom.
