How to adjust the doors in a shower enclosure and when is it absolutely necessary? This is a task that undoubtedly requires precision. In this article, you will learn how to perform these tasks so that the shower enclosure doors work flawlessly. And the reasons? There are many. You will read about them in this article!

Adjusting shower enclosure doors – when to do it

The initial adjustment of the shower enclosure doors takes place at the installation stage of the entire shower enclosure. The shower must be very precisely levelled. Otherwise, it will not be set in the correct position, so, inevitably, the shower enclosure and its doors will operate incorrectly and require constant adjustment. If that is indeed the case, it is the shower that needs adjustment, not the doors themselves.

If all components of the enclosure are perfectly level, the following situations indicate that the doors need adjustment:

  • difficulty opening/closing the doors;

  • increased resistance from the doors;

  • the doors catching on the surface of the shower tray;

  • rollers coming out of the guides;

  • a gap between the closed doors of the enclosure;

  • the doors not closing at the top or bottom of the enclosure.

Each of the above is a reason to readjust the shower enclosure doors. Doors that function correctly should not pop out of the guides, fail to close, or cause problems in everyday use.

How to adjust shower enclosure doors?

Installing a shower enclosure, properly levelling all components and harmonising them with the enclosure doors requires skill, experience and precision. Sometimes it is worth calling in a professional, but anyone who wishes to adjust the shower enclosure doors themselves should perform each step carefully and slowly.

Usually, the rollers, which are responsible for the smooth sliding of the doors along the guide, are to blame for irregularities. If they are in poor condition, they will need replacing. In that case, go to a shop and buy the correct rollers, then fit them in accordance with the instructions. Otherwise, the rollers will pop out of the guide, which can end up damaging the entire door panel.

However, if they are simply over- or under-tightened, adjust them with a screwdriver and the appropriate Allen (hex) key. This is not particularly difficult, but you should repeat the task several times, without rushing, to achieve the desired result.

Doors not closing properly – what to do?

Doors that do not close properly, whether at the sides, top or bottom, often leave the bathroom floor splashed. Leaks arise for various reasons, but three stand out:

  • a dirty guide rail for the door rollers;

  • limescale build-up reducing smooth movement;

  • faulty seals.

Doors that become leaky at the bottom or top often do so because the door profiles are uneven. This is not the only possible cause, but it is a very common one. Each of the above faults should be repaired as soon as it is detected. Otherwise, water will escape from the enclosure, with unpleasant consequences.

Water standing on the bathroom floor often causes household accidents. Someone stepping out of the shower tray can slip in a very unfortunate way, even if there is a towel or mat on the floor. It is not aesthetically pleasing either, and any water on the floor will have to be wiped up. Wasting time, money, patience and wellbeing is not worth doing nothing about it – and it will not get better on its own!

It is worth adjusting the doors on an ongoing basis and eliminating faults that lead to incorrect operation or alignment. Inspecting the rollers and guides, levelling, and checking the quality of the profiles and the degree of limescale on the various door components are essential. It is worth doing this regularly, once every few months, or even once a month. Then both the shower enclosure, its doors, and the entire bathroom will function more smoothly.
