What is it and how does a rimless bowl work?

A rimless toilet is characterised by a smooth shape without a curved rim. This allows the flushing water to move in a circular flow, so it doesn’t splatter and thoroughly cleans the inside of the bowl. In standard WCs there is a gap between the inner and outer edge of the toilet through which the water is directed downwards. Although the difference between them may seem subtle, it has a fairly significant impact on bathroom hygiene and the amount of water used during flushing.

Rimless toilet – pros and cons of a modern WC

Rimless toilet bowls are a relatively new solution in toilet design that has quickly won consumer approval. The advantages of pans of this shape include hygiene, the ease of keeping the bathroom clean, and even environmental benefits. However, before deciding to buy a toilet of this type, it’s worth taking into account a few important drawbacks.

Rimless WC – cons

One drawback that most consumers only notice after installing a rimless WC at home is the limitation when it comes to using the toilet rim blocks available in supermarkets. Most such hygiene products have a characteristic hook that allows the block to be hung on the rim of the bowl. With a toilet without a rim this is impossible or much more difficult. However, owners of rimless WCs can still freshen the bowl using gel products applied with a self-adhesive dispenser on the inside of the bowl.

Another drawback that may occur when choosing a rimless bowl concerns installation errors. As this type of toilet lacks a protective rim, you must ensure the flushing system is installed correctly. Otherwise, water may escape outside the bowl, especially if household members forget to put the seat down.

Depending on a retailer’s offering, it may also turn out that a rimless toilet is more expensive than traditional solutions. However, this isn’t a common issue, as this product is available across many price brackets.

Rimless toilet – advantages

When discussing the pros and cons of a rimless bowl, there’s definitely more to be said about the positives of such a solution.

To start with, a traditional rimmed WC can be an excellent breeding ground for germs. This results both from the flushing technique and from the difficulty of thoroughly cleaning such toilets. Choosing a rimless toilet means that every flush rinses the entire interior of the bowl and reduces the rate at which micro-organisms develop. What’s more, the smooth construction makes cleaning easier.

Rimless toilets are also more hygienic in terms of the flushing technique – provided they are installed correctly, they don’t splash water around the bathroom or onto the toilet seat.

Buying a WC of this type is also an excellent choice for those who care about our planet as well as their wallet. Depending on the model, rimless WCs allow more efficient water use. A bowl without a rim is easier to clean, even with smaller flush volumes. This can save up to around 30% of water with every use.

Rimless WCs are installed in the same way as traditional models, so you don’t need to worry about installation difficulty. If you prefer a professional to do it, the job won’t require any additional skills.

It’s worth mentioning that rimless toilets are available in many designs and colours, including in our Łazienka Rea shop. If you think it’s the perfect solution for your home, you can order your dream WC design right now.
