When deciding to renovate a bathroom, it is worth considering not only visual aspects but also all the technical ones. Among these, the dimensions of the sanitaryware play a key role. When appropriately chosen to suit both the size of the room and its users, they can not only enhance the appeal of the space but also improve user comfort. In this article, you will learn what the optimal height of a WC pan is and what to bear in mind when choosing one. Enjoy the read!

A convenience in the form of a WC pan

Due to the differing heights of users sharing the same sanitaryware, more and more people are opting for an optimal solution. This means bathroom products with adjustable height. They are used not only in multi-generational homes but also in facilities such as social care centres, hospitals and hotels. Among this type of equipment you can find, among others, WC pans. Adjustable toilet height provides comfort and convenience during hygiene routines for shorter people, people with disabilities, children, as well as taller users.

However, the height of the toilet pan is not always adjustable. In that case, universal frames used to mount wall-hung pans from any manufacturer come to the rescue. Assembling sets according to your own preferences allows you to create a comfortable toilet in an aesthetically pleasing style. An undoubted advantage of wall-hung WC pans is the lack of visible plumbing. Like the cistern, it is concealed behind the wall cladding.

Types of toilet pans

Toilets can be divided into two basic categories. The first of these, familiar to most people for many years, comprises traditional units installed directly on the floor. The second, much more modern type, is the wall-hung WC pan.

The difference between them is not only their look and aesthetics, but also the aforementioned possibility of adjusting the distance of the pan from the floor. In the first option, the outlet height does not change. The toilet is permanently fixed to the floor. In the wall-hung version, however, the height can be adjusted to a specific user thanks to a special frame, which is usually bolted to the wall and less often to the floor. Special bolts used for installation allow the frame to be spaced off the wall surface.

WC pan installation height

Installing a WC pan, contrary to popular belief, is not complicated. It primarily requires the correct installation of the frame to which it is fixed. In some models, the height of the WC pan can be adjusted. Nevertheless, it is sensible to position it according to standards, that is at an average height of 45–50 cm from the floor.

Another option is installation with approximately 21–23 cm from the axis of the waste pipe to the floor, which directly results in the upper rim of the WC pan hanging about 40–42 cm above the floor. The height at which a wall-hung WC pan is set should depend mainly on the individual preferences of the users.

If the bathroom is also used by older people or people with disabilities, it is worth ensuring that the height of the Geberit frame from the floor is set a little higher, at around 46–47 cm above the tiled surface. This would increase their comfort and ease of use.

The situation is slightly different for a urinal and a bidet. The former should be mounted approximately 65 cm above the floor, while the latter with its top edge at 42 cm.

As you can see, the comfort of using the toilet is closely dependent on the height at which the WC pan and other sanitaryware are installed. Therefore, before choosing the final product, discuss this issue in detail with other household members, and consult your choice of pan with the retailer to rule out incompatibility with the frame you have. This way you will avoid unnecessary expenses and enjoy a wall-hung pan, a hit of recent years.
