A small bathroom is, in a way, a constraint. When you consider both practical and visual aspects, it is decidedly harder to arrange than larger spaces. Still, modern, innovative solutions mean that even a compact shower enclosure has its admirers—provided it’s designed sensibly.
A small bathroom is a limitation of sorts. When you consider both practical and visual aspects, it is decidedly harder to arrange than larger rooms. However, modern, innovative solutions mean that even a small shower enclosure has its fans. It simply needs to be sensibly designed.
There are plenty of alternative options. Instead of a traditional cabinet – a niche for toiletries in the shower, with dimensions tailored to the user’s preferences. Instead of a bath – a shower. These are just a few examples.
But is a compact 80×80 enclosure comfortable? You’ll find out about that in the rest of the article too. Read on!
A small bathroom is commonly found not only in older buildings but also in modern blocks of flats, where, in order to gain larger rooms such as the living room or bedroom, the bathroom area is reduced. Due to the frequent layout challenges, manufacturers of interior fittings offer traditional ranges also available in non-standard sizes and shapes. Thanks to these, any bathroom that at first glance seems cramped and impossible to arrange can become not only functional but also elegant and spacious. Choosing the right sanitary ware and furniture plays a fundamental role here. Additional touches include light colours, mirrors, strong lighting and wall-hung cabinets.
Often, because of limitations, it’s considered necessary to give up one of the available options – either the shower or the bath. A great solution that combines the benefits of both is to choose a corner bath with a modern shower screen. Using one allows different types of bathing and also saves space needed for the rest of the fittings. Another idea is baths compatible with washbasins and walk-in showers (without a traditional shower tray). These are intended primarily for rooms with non-standard and tricky dimensions, as they allow for better spatial planning.
A popular choice is to buy a shower tray that has a curtain instead of an enclosure. Thanks to this, even when it is very small (70×70 or 80×80), it does not restrict the user’s freedom of movement as much as glass doors do. Another significant advantage is the possibility of placing it closer to the toilet and the washbasin. Unfortunately, a major drawback is how easily the floor gets splashed when showering.
Another option is a bathroom with a shower enclosure. This solution, intended for slightly larger spaces, is characterised primarily by a higher price, but also by convenience, as the user no longer has to worry about splashing the floor. The most advantageous shapes are those with a rounded edge or a clipped corner, as they provide greater freedom of movement for the user, and parts for shower enclosures of this type are also more often available off the shelf.
In small rooms it is extremely difficult to find space for a dream bath. A far more cost-effective option is to invest in a shower for a small bathroom. A smaller enclosure can also be comfortable, functional and eye-catching. This is especially true when it is fitted with elegant transparent doors (sliding or bi-fold) and the shower tray is dispensed with in favour of a floor-level drain.
We hope that, thanks to us, you now know how to arrange your sanctuary of relaxation and which shower will work best in a small bathroom. In addition to the aspects discussed above, opt for the art of illusion. Instead of dark walls and a standard décor, choose light, glossy tiles that visually enlarge the interior, mirrors (including those in cabinets), wall-mounted shelves, good lighting and interesting accessories. This will make your bathroom space truly striking.
Doing away with unnecessary fittings and keeping things consistent with the rest of the flat will allow you to introduce a touch of luxury tailored to your own preferences.
