Plan your rain shower installation

Installing a shower with a rain shower head won’t be possible if you don’t first buy the right equipment. There are various types of rain shower heads on the market, so how do you choose the best one? When selecting it, pay attention to a few criteria.

Size is important, among other things. Rain shower head should be matched to the size and shape of the shower enclosure. Larger models are ideal for spacious bathrooms, while compact variants work better in smaller spaces. Also consider the material. Stainless steel and chrome models offer long-lasting durability and are easy to clean. Pay attention as well to the features offered by a given model. Modern rain shower heads can offer a variety of water spray settings, from a gentle mist to an intense, massaging jet.

The next step is to gather all the tools needed for the installation. You may find various spanners and screwdrivers useful, as well as a drill with a set of bits, a spirit level, and sanitary silicone sealant. Also make sure the chosen rain shower head is compatible with your plumbing.

All set? Decide exactly where you’ll install the rain shower head and move on to the next stage of the work.

Installing a shower with a rain shower head step by step

Installing a shower with a rain shower head is quite straightforward. Just follow these steps:

  1. Start by installing the shower mixer. The shower mixer is usually wall-mounted. Check which mounting height will be appropriate, taking into account the height of all household members. Use a spirit level to make sure the mixer will be mounted level. Fix the mixer to the wall using a drill and suitable wall plugs.

  2. Connect the water and waste connections. Connect the new shower mixer to the existing water pipes. Make sure all connections are watertight by using appropriate sealants — this will minimise the risk of leaks.

  3. Install the rain shower head.

    1. Correct positioning of the rain shower head: The ideal location is the centre of the shower enclosure. This will allow you to use the shower freely and ensure even distribution of water while washing.

How high should the rain shower head be?

Rain shower head: how far above your head? The most practical solution is to install it about 20–25 cm above the head of the tallest household member. This way they won’t bump into it, and at the same time this height will be just as functional for everyone else.

    2. Proceed with the installation. First, mount the shower arm to the wall. Using a drill, make holes for the wall plugs. Insert screws into them to secure the arm. Wrap the pipe threads with PTFE (Teflon) tape to prevent leaks during use. Then screw the rain shower head onto the arm. And you’re done!

Check for leaks and clean the shower

After installing the shower with a rain shower head, it’s extremely important to thoroughly check the entire system for leaks. Only this way will you be certain there are no leaks. Turn on the water and carefully inspect all connections and pipes, paying particular attention to places where droplets may appear.

If you notice a leak, tighten the connections or reapply sealant. Then carry out a general clean-up of the installation area. Remove all installation residues: the rain shower head’s packaging, drilling dust, or traces of silicone where they shouldn’t be. Clean the rain shower head and other shower components using mild cleaning agents.

All done? In that case, it’s time for the first shower! Enjoy!
