These days, more and more people are opting for homemade cleaning products. You can make your own washing powder, washing-up liquid, and even pastes and mixtures that will help you keep your sanitary ware spotlessly clean while ensuring proper hygiene. We’ll show you how to remove limescale from the toilet and what to use to clean the shower enclosure using homemade remedies!

Advantages of home remedies for dirt and stains

Homemade cleaning products have many advantages. As a rule, making them is much cheaper than buying popular chemical cleaners. You usually have virtually all the necessary ingredients at home to make your chosen mixture.

What’s more, such blends don’t put household members’ health at risk, as they are most often prepared from food-grade products. This way you don’t inhale toxic fumes and you avoid skin irritation.

There’s more! The homemade cleaning products you prepare are also safe for the environment. In this way, you’ll be aligning yourself with the eco-friendly trend of caring for the planet.

How to remove limescale from the toilet without chemical cleaners?

There are several ways to tackle stubborn limescale or deposits in the toilet, bath or washbasin and bathroom taps. Today we’re sharing tried-and-tested, highly effective ideas that take just a few minutes to prepare.

A paste of bicarbonate of soda and citric acid

To make it, you’ll need bicarbonate of soda, citric acid and water. Combine the ingredients in a 3:2:1 ratio. Apply the resulting mixture to the soiled area and leave it for at least half an hour. After that, clean the toilet as usual and rinse the bowl with water.

Remember: the thicker the paste, the better it will cling to the slippery surface of the bowl. You can adjust the proportions to your current needs. The more water you add, the thinner the mixture will be. Less liquid means a thicker consistency.

How do you remove limescale from the toilet below the waterline? It’s simple! Put the mixture into the bowl and stir until it foams. In this case, also wait at least half an hour. Then scrub the toilet with a toilet brush and flush.

White vinegar and bicarbonate of soda

Bicarbonate of soda combined with white vinegar is not only an effective agent against limescale and streaks, but also a mixture that will tackle bacteria and microorganisms. Even heavy limescale in the toilet bowl won’t stand a chance against this concoction.

To prepare it, you’ll need 2 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda and 2 tablespoons of white vinegar. Mix the ingredients and, using a sponge or a toothbrush, apply them to the stains. Leave the mixture there for at least 15 minutes. After that, rinse it off with warm water.

Coca-Cola for limescale in the toilet?

Yes! Although it may surprise you, this popular fizzy drink also works for removing limescale from the toilet. Simply pour at least a litre of the drink into the toilet and leave it there for an hour. After that, scrub the inside of the toilet with a toilet brush and flush.

Other ways to deal with limescale in the bathroom

Wondering how to remove limescale from a bathroom tap? How to descale a shower head, or perhaps how to remove limescale from a washbasin? In each of these cases, home remedies will do the trick too!

You can get rid of limescale or deposits from taps, the washbasin or the shower tray and the shower head using white vinegar. Soak some cotton wool or a cloth in vinegar and wrap it around the soiled area. Wait at least an hour, then rinse the area with warm water.

Is the build-up on the walls of your shower enclosure keeping you awake at night? In that case, squeeze some lemon juice and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray the dirty surface 2–3 times a few minutes apart, then rinse with warm water and wipe dry. Instead of lemon juice, you can put white vinegar in the bottle.

As you can see, keeping your bathroom clean with homemade cleaning products is incredibly simple!
