Keeping a shower enclosure spotlessly clean is no small challenge. Daily use by several members of the household doesn’t make it any easier. Build-up appears not only on the enclosure itself but also on the grout between the tiles, creating unsightly streaks. How can you get rid of them efficiently? You’ll find out in the post below – take a look and get inspired!

Grout: what is it? Is it a bathroom essential?

The bathroom is a place that needs to be arranged to suit the conditions that prevail there. High humidity, elevated temperatures and water often splashing everywhere are factors in which laminate flooring, ordinary paint or wallpaper wouldn’t stand a chance. Durable tiles are therefore essential, with a suitable filler between them in the form of grout.

Grout joints play a very important role in the bathroom. They keep the tiles properly set and bonded, and thus protected. The presence of grout in a bathroom, especially in the shower, is therefore a necessity. However, keeping it clean isn’t easy. Various types of build-up, for example from soap residues, get trapped in the joints. If not cleaned regularly, they accumulate significantly, which makes their later removal even more difficult. What should you use to clean grout, particularly in the shower? There are several ways.

How to clean grout? Here’s how!

What should you use to clean dirty grout on the bathroom floor? The task is often labour-intensive, but worth doing. Limescale can be troublesome, especially in the shower area. Every day, residues of care products run down the tiles and quickly collect in the gaps, making the grout look unsightly. However, there are several options that work well for cleaning grout.

What to wash grout with? Go for home remedies!

Wondering how to refresh grout the home-made way? Simply reach for a few products you already have in your kitchen. Bicarbonate of soda and vinegar will come in handy. Combine these two ingredients with water to make a solution (a packet of bicarbonate of soda, 100 ml of vinegar and 100 ml of water), then apply it over the grout in the shower. Leave it for an hour and then rinse with water. Cleaning grout with bicarb and vinegar should deliver the desired results while being a fairly economical way to clean.

How do you clean white grout? A better solution here may be a lemon, whose juice will effectively restore whiteness to the joints between the tiles. Cut it in half, drop it into a glass of hot water and wait for it to release its juice. Rub this solution into the grout with a brush. You can also clean white grout with toothpaste. Spread it over the joints and leave for an hour. After that, scrub with a toothbrush and all the dirt will disappear.

Chemical cleaners for grout

What should you use to clean grout in the shower if home remedies haven’t worked? Reach for chemical cleaners that have a stronger effect. Choose a product specifically designed for cleaning grout. That way you’ll be sure you won’t damage or discolour the surrounding tiles or the grout itself.

Steam-cleaning grout

A very effective method that also doesn’t require too much elbow grease is steam-cleaning grout. You will, however, need special appliances, i.e. steam cleaners. With the right attachment you can easily reach the dirt that collects between the tiles, and strong blasts of steam will quickly remove it.

Look after not only the grout, but the enclosure too!

Once you’ve managed to get the grout perfectly clean, take care of the look of the shower enclosure as well. Streaks and smears appearing on it are unsightly and can easily overshadow the effect you achieved by cleaning the grout. So how can you remove them quickly and easily? All you need is an appropriate shower enclosure cleaner, which will deal with the dirt that forms on it. Just remember to choose a product that not only cleans but also protects the surface of the enclosure. Hydro Fixer can be a good solution. With it you can gently clean the shower, and the polymers it contains will additionally refresh the hydrophobic properties of the enclosure’s coating. Good luck!
