Bathroom in a block of flats – how to arrange it efficiently and aesthetically?

Designing a bathroom in a block of flats is no easy task, especially when the room designated for it offers limited floor area. That said, a bathroom in a block can be arranged to be both fully functional and aesthetically pleasing. The key is to plan the space properly—every square centimetre counts!

Designing a bathroom in a block of flats is no easy task. Especially when the floor area of the room set aside for the bathroom is not very large. It is worth noting, however, that a bathroom in a block can be arranged to be fully functional and aesthetically pleasing. The key is to plan the bathroom space properly, where every square centimetre counts!

Planning – the idea for your bathroom is what matters most!

Idea, plan, concept – that’s where you should start. Without properly analysing the room and its character, taking into account every recess, vertical soil pipes routed in particularly awkward places, and the limited floor area, arranging a bathroom in a block of flats will be a very difficult task.

At the bathroom planning stage, it’s worth considering not only purely technical issues, but also the habits of the household. A functional bathroom is one that allows comfortable use of every fixture, cabinet, shelf and drawer placed in it.

Functionality is, of course, key to a smoothly running bathroom, but it’s worth remembering aesthetics. The comfort of using the bathroom will be all the greater the more beautiful the room becomes. Everyone has slightly different taste, that’s true. However, it should be noted that when the floor area is limited, white bathrooms in a block of flats turn out to be one of the best choices. The only one? Of course not, although a small bathroom in darker colours will require a little more creativity!

Arranging bathrooms in a block of flats: go for minimalism!

Older buildings, especially from the era of the Polish People’s Republic, were above all large-panel blocks in which the bathroom floor area was cut down to very modest dimensions. It was hard to find room for a bath, washing machine, basin, shower and decorative accessories. Yet these are not spaces that someone designing interiors in a minimalist spirit couldn’t handle!

Minimalism, contrary to appearances, doesn’t mean cutting back beyond reason, but making the most of what is limited. Sounds complicated? The bathroom is small and the household like both a shower and a bath? Why not combine them into one? After all, a bath with a bath screen and a shower mixer fitted at the right height will take up far less space than a separate bath and shower enclosure. Here’s minimalism in practice: making maximum use of the space and of contemporary interior trends! Add a countertop washbasin (interesting options available here), a wall-hung WC with the cistern concealed in the frame, and the space will be used in a smart, attractive way.

And accessories and ornaments? Do you absolutely have to get rid of them? Not at all! Aesthetics are extremely important in every bathroom, whether minimalist or large and lavishly designed. In a minimalist bathroom, however, it’s worth opting for just a few decorations (one, two) placed in the right spot, which will create a huge visual impact, draw attention and emphasise the character of the whole bathroom to the maximum.

All toiletries, hygiene products, shampoos and other personal care items should have a proper place. Ideally, they should be concealed in such a way that they can be found quickly. Built-in cabinetry is your ally here!

Colours and patterns – an idea for a bathroom in a block of flats

How do you design a bathroom in a block of flats so that its aesthetics give pleasure and it looks beautiful? For small bathrooms, it’s worth choosing light colours of tiling. The tiles also shouldn’t have overly rich patterns. Why?

Light colours of bathroom fixtures and tiles will visually enlarge the bathroom. Choosing dark colours can pose some problems and make the bathroom feel a little smaller. Admittedly only visually, but it can be perceived as a jarring note. Caution is needed here, and if dark colours do appear, it’s worth breaking them up with light ones.

Steering clear of tiles with large patterns is justified – they won’t have room to show their potential and, instead of pleasing the eye, will leave you wanting. A light, simple, minimalist and functional bathroom in a block of flats – that’s our recommendation!
