A marble bathroom – how to design it so that it delights and is fully functional?

A marble bathroom is not merely a contemporary trend. Marble as a material has been known to humankind for centuries. It has been used to create remarkable interiors, bathrooms included. It is exceptionally beautiful and, in itself, needs no embellishment. Its raw aesthetic is hard to compare with any other, and this material doesn’t come cheap. However, using marble in a bathroom makes it possible to achieve a truly extraordinary character for this interior!

A bathroom and marble = a wealth of design possibilities!

Natural marble is an excellent finishing material for many interiors, including, of course, bathrooms. It is timeless, never goes out of fashion, and that is no exaggeration – the wealthy and powerful of centuries past used marble to finish their grand homes, the terraces before their estates and, indeed, their baths. Marble washbasin, marble floors and walls, or even baths were not uncommon in such places. Solutions from antiquity can also be implemented today with a suitably generous budget!

This exceptionally elegant material has its own unique character. It is hard to mistake it for anything else, but originality is only one of its advantages. In a bathroom it offers very broad design possibilities and works brilliantly in interiors arranged in styles such as:

Many interiors appreciate variety and natural materials, and a marble bathroom all the more so! Why? Using marble in rooms with high humidity has its practical justification – marble absorbs water by only a few per cent (sometimes not at all!), so it will remain beautiful and unscathed by the passage of time for decades! How, then, should a marble bathroom look?

A bathroom with marble – choosing a style, lighting, accessories

Designing marble bathrooms is usually the domain of specialists, although there is no shortage of enthusiasts who know the art of using marble in bathrooms. Both designers and aficionados know that the most important thing is the concept for the bathroom, above all the choice of the style that will dominate this interior.

Marble – without a shadow of exaggeration – looks gorgeous in many styles. Starting with minimalism, through the natural style, and ending with glamour. It pairs beautifully with wooden elements, which is why a marble countertop washbasin with a wooden base will look just as splendid in a bathroom as its fully marble counterpart. In marble bathrooms, stainless steel fittings work perfectly, harmonising wonderfully with the natural beauty of this material.

Marble can feature on the bathroom floors and walls, form the cladding of the bath, or serve as the base of the shower enclosure, yet it also works just as well as a stylish accent. A section of the bathroom lined with marble – for example the area by the washbasin, just above it – and a mirror in a gold or black frame are ways to weave marble elements into a bathroom in which most features are, for instance, wooden. A countertop washbasin and marble are always a great pairing!

One must, of course, not forget the right lighting, because marble literally radiates in bright and airy bathrooms! LED lights are perfect for emphasising the character of the bathroom’s marble features. Skilfully woven into the interior scheme, they lend it an exceptionally luminous aesthetic. Interestingly, dark marbles also like plenty of light, so it is worth experimenting with it and brightening gloomier rooms with additional lamps or chandeliers (especially in the glamour style!).

It is also worth choosing the right accessories: gold finishes on bathroom furniture and fittings, polished steel, or shimmering soap dispensers and other cosmetics containers, and a bathroom with marble will become truly captivating and fully functional!
